A Whole Different Life

So, obviously living in Singapore and serving as missionaries will be a completely different life for us, but there are new things that I realize all the time will be different for us.  We hear about turmoil in other countries and about political instability, but in general it doesn’t really affect us.  It will when we move.  A couple guys from our team were supposed to go to Nepal earlier this month to install a radio station, but because of impending transportation strikes that essentially shut down the country, they couldn’t go.  The strikes lasted for a week and I read a quote from a woman who said she was just happy that the strike was over because it meant new food was coming into the market. She and her family had been living off potatoes that whole week because they didn’t have access to any other food with the strike.

We’ve been reading stories about the conflict in Thailand that could escalate to a civil war.  I can’t imagine how the Thai people feel on either side of the conflict.  People are being injured and killed in this conflict that is playing out right in Bangkok. I can’t imagine a conflict in our country that got to the point the army was putting up “Live Firing Zone” signs in Washington, D.C., because they were in a position to fire on protesters if they deemed it necessary.

Political instability in the Asia-Pacific region is unfortunately part of life, especially the countries where we are currently doing a majority of our work.  It affects the work HCJB Global is doing, but much, much more importantly it affects the daily lives of the people in these countries.  So much of life for them is unstable because of the political climate or poverty or natural disasters. It makes me want the people there to know about Jesus even more-to know the never-changing, always present God who loves them.
