75%!!!!!
God is providing in awesome ways! Thanks to our wonderful and supportive home church (New Vision Baptist Church) increasing their commitment we are now officially at 75% of our goal! We started our journey as HCJB Global missionary appoointees just over 2 years ago and it’s incredible to be able to say that we’re at 75%. SEVENTY FIVE PERCENT! Can you tell I’m excited?
We’ve come a long way during that time and God has taught us so much. We knew that God was good and faithful, but we’ve seen a greater depth to those characteristics. We’ve learned to be faithful ourselves to the call God put on our lives. As we struggled at times and even thought about giving up, we were honest about how we felt and we kept going; persevering towards what we knew in our hearts God had for us. We’ve learned patience to a degree we never knew was needed. Those who know us better would probably agree that it usually takes some time for us to really open up-to be vulnerable and share what’s on our hearts. Learning to do that in a different setting and really putting ourselves out there more than we’re always comfortable has been an interesting part of our growth. We know that being honest and open connects people to us and to our ministry in a way nothing else can and that God is glorified by telling how He’s worked during both joyous and difficult times.
At this point we’re thankful to be joyful and excited (and also a little nervous) as we anticipate finally moving to Asia and doing the work there that God called us to. We know that the past couple years have been part of His calling and that everything we have experienced was for a purpose and a reason. And eventually the process of raising our initial support will seem like just a blip in a hopefully long, well-lived life.
Getting closer…
Right now we are only $1,800 a month a way from our goal… that’s just over a quarter of the way left to go. Thanks so much to those who have caught the vision for seeing a region transformed by Christ through media.
We’re now registered for training that is coming up in a few months and we’d love to have reached our goal by the time we begin training.
It is both exciting and scary for us as we see the end of this part of the journey approaching but the reality of living in a totally different culture is starting to become more real. I can get thrown off by going to a different grocery store than my usual… what about when I don’t recognize much of what is on the shelf at all?
Upsidown
I wrote yesterday about our possible timeline and what depended on what. We’ve trusted God all along to show us His timeline and He did that in a huge way today. Toffer and I were talking last night about whether or not he was going to put in his 60-days notice this Friday. We didn’t really feel a peace about him putting it in and it’s obvious that the lack of peace was God. This morning I got a call from the Director of Missionary Services. Apparently another missionary is trying to get into training in June and the training organization is completely booked for that session. So, that answers the question of whether or not we should go in June. And then she said she wanted us to go ahead and register for August to make sure we have a spot. While we’re still a little bit shy ($257) of where we needed to be to register, she felt good about us making that next big step. So, here we are looking at our world being turned upside down (or upsidown as Samuel says) in less than six months! WOW!
Progress Report
Do you ever have something to say and can’t seem to get it out? I’ve written and re-written this post multiple times now and just can’t seem to get out what I’m trying to say. I’m going to attempt making a list and hope that makes sense.
1. We have $6558 in monthly support that we need to raise for HCJB Global to cover our expenses (see our “Kings Go to Asia” page for a breakdown)
2. So far we are just shy of raising 70% of that amount, leaving us less than $2000/month to raise.
3. We feel good about Toffer putting in his 60-days with MTSU when we reach 75%, which is just $350 away.
4. In order to leave for Asia around Sept. 1, we need to be in training that starts the last week of June. To give us time to celebrate a family wedding and Benjamin’s birthday along with packing and driving to training, Toffer needs to put his 60-days in this Friday.
So, if $350 in monthly support comes in in the next three days, we’ll be able to put a firm timeline on our plans. If not, we shoot for the next round of training, starting the first week of August, and will head over later in September. We know God has a timeline and the next few days will indicate more of what that timeline looks like. We must have prayed for patience because God is certainly teaching us a lot about it!!
