Shining the Light with Radio

A vast majority of people in Asia live in darkness every day without someone in their lives who can tell them about Jesus.  The don’t reject God on principle or because it is trendy to do so, they reject God simply because they have not had anyone tell them about Him.

In Thailand, Nepal, and Mongolia fewer than 2% of people are Christians.  Believers make up a larger percentage of the population in Indonesia but over 60% of the country is still considered unreached.

We believe faith comes by hearing and are committed to living and serving God in Asia so all may hear.

One way for people to hear is through radio planting. Reach Beyond partners with local churches and ministries to start Christian-based community radio stations.  We have served with Reach Beyond’s Asia Pacific team since October 2011.  During our time in Asia we have relied on God to give us the strength and abilities necessary to build a new life while also working with partners around the region.  Our current ministry partners are spread across Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, and now in Mongolia.

Toffer serves primarily as a radio planter – working with local partners to install or upgrade equipment at community radio stations. He also helps with equipment repair and troubleshooting problems when they arise.  Toffer also occasionally works on other media projects like studio construction and indigenous music recordings.  He appreciates the opportunity to use his skills to help local believers reach their communities for Christ.

Becky has spent her time on the field learning to live and raise children in a cross-cultural environment.  She and Toffer have four young boys – Samuel, Benjamin, Isaac, and Daniel – who make sure that life is never boring.  In a very part-time capacity Becky also serves as the team’s publicity coordinator.  She enjoys using her writing skills to tell how their team is part of God’s story.

Partner with Us

Just as our team has ministry partners in the field, we need ministry partners stateside to make it possible for us to live and serve in Asia.  You can partner with us in three ways:

1. Learn more about the work in Asia.  One way you can do this is by signing up for our printed newsletter.  Read stories from the field and find out more about how God is using radio to connect believers with their communities.  Also feel free to contact Toffer or Becky to ask questions.
2. Pray for our family, the work, and our partners in Asia. Join as a prayer partner and receive updates about how you can be interceding.
3. Give financially.  We need financial partners who will commit to give regularly to Reach Beyond in order for us to serve in the field. Gifts can be made monthly, quarterly, or annually.  Our current goal is $2,500/month in new support before our planned return to Asia in March 2015.  Giving is tax deductible as allowed by law.  You can give online or contact us for more details.
